Arcadis, LFR and Project Navigator have combined resources to offer capabilities and unique experience in the remediation of phosphogypsum impacted sites.

Water Treatment

  • New and low-cost technology for treating acid water from phosphogypsum stacks.
  • Eliminates the need for ex-situ treatment, all treatment done within ponds and groundwater, using low-cost equipment.
  • Combines neutralization and metal reduction in water in one step eliminating the need for double liming.
  • Uses innovative redox reaction chemistry with non-toxic reagents to remove metals.
  • Method is applicable both at the surface and in the subsurface by forming a redox front trapping metals in the reduced state.

Stabilization and Capping

  • Stabilization that provides both mechanical strength and cap integrity is important for long-term control of stacks at closure.
  • Using an emulsified asphalt treatment process, metals are encapsulated and can provide a suitable material for road base, drainage ditches, berms and slopes.
  • Metal cations including lead and uranium are effectively stabilized to pass TCLP criteria.
  • The technology is also applicable as a spray-on topically applied treatment for dust control on exposed stack areas prone to erosion.

Using these technologies, we can provide guaranteed fixed-price for remediation and a shared cost-savings to our clients.
